BASF, “The
Chemical Company” is seeking exceptional candidates for an Environmental
Specialist position at our Zachary, LA location. This position provides
technical support for environmental compliance activities as needed through a
shared services concept.
You would be responsible for the following:
Providing
technical and regulatory expertise to maintain environmental compliance through
support and program assistance for multiple operating units and a wastewater
treatment process.
Facilitating the
sharing of programs, procedures, tools, and successfully demonstrated practices
within the EHS Community.
Implementation and
operation of EHS standardized processes and administrative support of related
electronic systems.
Developing
effective working relationships with site management, employees, and the EHS
community to drive continuous improvement in environmental performance.
Provide input to
Hub Environmental Team Leader in identifying and tracking appropriate KPI’s,
and assessing environmental performance.
Maintain environmental
records and prepare various reports for assigned units.
Maintain and
monitor environmental compliance programs for the site while optimizing
effectiveness and efficiency of the programs.
Maintain written
environmental programs and procedures for the site.
Oversee site waste
activities (waste profiles, waste storage, manifesting, transportation /
shipment).
Lead and/or
participate in investigation and root cause analysis for on-site incidents.
Participate in
capital project reviews and Process Hazard Analyses (PHA) consistent with the
level of EHS expertise needed.
Complete and
submit required regulatory reports (ex. TIER II, TRI, groundwater, RCRA, ERIC,
LDAR, etc.) and BASF internal reports (ex. Responsible CARE).
Develop specific
training packages for regulatory changes, new or modified permit conditions, or
targeted KPI enhancements.
Provide
environmental regulatory interpretation for assigned units’ operational and
maintenance activities.
Provide input to
Hub Environmental Team Leader and interface with regulatory agencies and third
parties, as needed, on permitting, compliance and enforcement issues.
Active
participation with the EHS Community.
Where you will work:
The Zachary, LA
site is located 10-15 miles north of Baton Rouge. The location sits on 104
acres and employs 90 employees producing high purity solvents, aryl-phosphines
and electrolytes and custom specialty chemicals focusing on High Pressure
reactions and sodium chemistry.

Qualifications
BASF recognizes
institutions of Higher Education which are accredited by the Council for Higher
Education Accreditation or equivalent
The individual needs
to have detailed knowledge (theory and application) of the various
environmental disciplines, specifically air, water, and waste, or capability to
develop the same. Basic knowledge of chemical manufacturing is a plus.
BS Degree, or
higher, in Engineering, Science, or Environmental discipline required.
Must have 5 or
more years of experience in implementing environmental programs, in a
manufacturing arena.
Environmental
regulatory knowledge and expertise is required. Louisiana specific regulatory
knowledge is a plus.
Experience/training in NPDES, RCRA, and/or MACT regulations a plus.
Basic computer
skills (ex. spreadsheets, word processing, database management) are required.
